Summer Closure

Summer is winding down with a few last days of swimming at the outdoor pool, seeing friends, painting the kitchen, and getting ready for school.

Removing nails and a backsplash from the kitchen wall getting ready to paint.

Our freshly painted buttery yellow kitchen. Wow, time to wash that gray right out of my hair.

Waa-la! Our garden survived this summer. Time to make salsa!

Enjoying some down time and a book.

Swim meet - and our sweet friends

One of the swim meets earlier in the summer included inner tube and kick board races.

Good-bye Summer. We will miss you!!

I'm Addicted

I'm addicted to baking sourdough bread. And as you can see, I'm getting better at it.
No, I'm not going to quit my job and open a bakery.

Homemade Sourdough Bread

I got out my sourdough start last night, fed it, and went to bed. My mom told me to add a little honey to the start to jump-start it a little. When I got up, the sourdough sponge was flowing over the top of my crock and onto the counter. Jump-start is right I guess. So I cleaned that up and started some bread dough.

I
used my mom's secret recipe. It rose in a warm oven for about 2 hours and then I formed a big loaf and let it rise again for about an hour. Then while it was baking I spritzed it with water to give it that chewy crust. It looks great and the house smells amazing. I don't know how I'm going to eat it all, by myself.... :) I guess Bells will be glad to help out....

Tromboning

First try with the new trombone.

Beware Hermit Fly

Do you like our new blog title? We decided to be more web conscious and change our blog name. So... we made an anagram of our family name. Hence, "Beware Hermit Fly"! We laughed at some of the other options such as:

Rewrite my Behalf
Merry White Fable
Faery Treble Whim
Few Bathe Merrily (my personal favorite)
My Heftier Warble
Firm Leathery Web (another favorite)

Happy summer everyone!!

Barbies with Bella

We were trying to teach Bella to play Barbies, but her Barbie family didn't interact - pretty quiet and just sat there.

Also, here are some fun pictures from Easter with D & A that I had also posted on Facebook.

Instrument Tryouts

This past week Brooke and her classmates picked out their favorite band instruments. They saw demonstrations of several instruments and compared their sounds. She had to list her top three instruments. Her first one was the trombone. Choices two and three were clarinet and flute. They will start taking lessons this summer.
